Jobless Rate Falls to 3.6% in March

Hungary’s jobless rate was 3.6% in March, falling from 3.8% in February and 4.0% in the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said.

 

The rate covers unemployment among people between the ages of 15 and 74. In absolute terms, there were 176,000 unemployed, 9,200 fewer than a month earlier and 17,700 fewer than in March 2021. The rolling three-month average jobless rate also stood at 3.7% in March, edging down from 3.8% in February and 4.5% twelve months earlier. The monthly jobless rate for the 15 to 64-year-old age group stood at 3.6%, down from 3.9% in the previous month and 4.1% a year earlier.

 

KSH noted that data from the National Employment Service (NFSZ) show there were 251,000 registered jobseekers at the end of March, down 17.2% from twelve months earlier. The employment rate for the 15-74 age group reached 64.0% in March, climbing from 63.6% in February and 62.6% twelve months earlier. In absolute terms, there were 4,697,000 employed in March, 29,200 more than in February and 81,000 more than twelve months earlier. The number of economically active people in the age group stood at 4,873,000, giving Hungary an activity rate of 66.4%.
